Derbyshire Stone

Sambucus racemosa 'Sutherland Gold', Cornus alba 'Spaethii', Iris ensata, Iris pallida 'Variegata', Persicaria virginiana 'Painter's Palette', Rodgersia pinnata 'Elegans', Primula bulleyana, hostas and many other moisture-loving plants. A newly built stone wall retains the stackyard pond, planted with daffodils in the Spring. Echoes of a farming past are seen in the mushroom-shaped staddle stones, once used to support corn before threshing, now half hidden by woodland planting. The industrial heritage of Sheffield is also recalled in the several millstones found discarded in the garden, and now planted with hostas and alpine plants.
